Dear Center School Families,
We are excited that the start of school is nearly here! We are looking forward to seeing the building bustling with learning once again. The first day of school for first graders is Wednesday, August 30. The first day for kindergarten students is Thursday, August 31.
Our summer has been busy with preparations for the upcoming year. Many of us have attended courses and completed curriculum work to build upon our learning as well as enjoy quality time with family and friends. This time has reinvigorated our drive for educating your children. We look forward to a fantastic year ahead!
As you prepare for the first day(s) of school, please note the following important information:
Upon their arrival at school, the children will be assisted by numerous faculty members who will take the children to their classrooms. Please remember to attach your child’s nametag to his/her shirt on the first day. We recommend that your child wear their name tags for the first 2 weeks of school until everyone gets familiar with names and arrival/dismissal routines. School lunch is available for $2.50 ($.50 for milk). Online payments can be made through the HPS website, or with a check payable to: “Hopkinton School Lunch Program.”
If your child will be taking the school bus, you can access bus route information the week of August 21-25 on the school district website (http://www.hopkinton.k12.ma.us). To access click District Departments then Transportation followed by Bus Routes then Center School. We recommend that you be at bus stops somewhat earlier than the printed times for the first week or so, until the buses have a chance to fully establish their routines. To facilitate the flow of routes Be ready at the stop. We encourage a 10-15 minute window at the beginning of the year, as route times are approximations. Be respectful of the time as those not prepared or taking a lot of pictures will delay the route for all. A few minutes at multiple stops will quickly add up to a significant delay for others. For the dismissal route, again, please allow a 10-15 minute window of time. Route times are approximate, not exact.
If your child is not taking the bus:
Morning Drop-off begins at 8:45 at the front of the building. Please have your child seated by passenger side of the car, ready for a quick safe exit onto the school grounds. We do not want children exiting vehicles into traffic. Staff members are always available to assist, and we respectfully ask parents to remain in their cars so the traffic can flow on Ash Street.
Afternoon Pick-up is at 3:15 children being picked up will be brought to the main hallway at the center doorway. Please park in a legal parking space on Ash Street or along the Common and walk to the front steps to meet your child.
Routines: To prepare for the first day and those after, begin easing into a bedtime routine. Chances are, many have strayed from set routines while enjoying the summer months. The day is poised for greater success when we are well rested. Prepare what you can at night: pack the backpack, lay out clothing, talk about options for breakfast and lunch to minimize morning madness.

Enjoy these last days of summer vacation.

Important Information regarding Transportation Changes
The beginning of a new school year is both exciting and busy. In the past, the large volume of transportation changes submitted the last weeks of summer to our office created a number of challenges. The timely data processing of transportation changes as well as the accurate transportation information disseminated to teachers is critical for the safety of our students.
It is imperative that we are able to verify our transportation information for our young students. Continuous changes impede this verification. To ensure transportation information is accurate for all of our students, the last day to submit transportation changes will be Monday, August 14. This moratorium will be held until Monday, September 18.
On Monday, September 18, the Center School office will accept and begin processing Request for Change to School Transportation forms.
I thank you for your understanding.
