WRITING CLUB: Do you like to write short stories, poems and chapter books? If so, please join us every Thursday in room 218 with Mrs. Verra for Writing Club. We write, read, and offer suggestions and publish a literary journal at the end of the year. This club meets every Thursday but you may come when it fits your schedule. Our first meeting will be held Thursday, September 27th.
Picture Day will be Tuesday, September 25th. Please order online or pick up a blank form in guidance.
Friday's 8th Grade Welcome Back Party has been postponed to Friday, October 5th due to scheduling conflicts. A makeup event will be scheduled for the month of October. 8th grade students interested in helping to plan the event should contact Ms. McDonough.
HMS HERALD: The HMS Herald will be having its first meeting of the year tomorrow, September 21st in room 229. All 6th and 7th graders interested in writing articles, taking photos of events, and/or drawing comics for the newspaper should stop by. Can't come but still interested? Email Mrs. Broberg!
DRAMA CLUB: Last auditions for the fall play Peter/Wendy will be held today. If you did not attend the informational meeting, please see Ms. Porter for an audition packet. Only students with signed permission slips will be able to audition.
YOGA CLUB: Yoga Club will have its first meeting today, September 20th from 2-3pm in the Library, and will continue to meet on the first and third Thursday each month.
HOMEWORK CLUB: Homework Club will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday in either Mrs. McNally's or Mr. Rockwood's classroom.
ULTIMATE FANDOM CLUB (UFC) (Hopsplay Cosplay/Explore Pottermore Combo): The HMS Ultimate Fandom Club will take place on most Wednesdays from 2-3pm in room 240 with Mrs. O'Connell. The Ultimate Fandom Club is a combination of the old Explore Pottermore Club and the Hopsplay Club. If you are a Harry Potter fan, come and explore Pottemore.com, if you enjoy cosplay and anime feel free to come in costume. If you enjoy Star Wars, Star Trek, Stranger Things, Dr. Who, Marvel Comic Universe, DC Comic Universe or are a super fan of other things in pop culture this is the club for you. Come and fly your fandom flag high!
ROBOTICS: If you are interested in Robotics (programming, engineering, math and/or strategizing), consider joining the RoboHillers on Thursdays from 2-4 in the Cafeteria. Students of all skill levels are welcome. You also get the added benefit of enhancing your leadership, time management, and team building skills while preparing for competitions. Dear HMS Families,
Despite today’s warmth, we had a highly successful debut to the 2018-2019 school year. We thank you for your efforts to make it so.
This morning went extremely well, and we thank you for your cooperation. Needless to say, our goal is to ensure that everyone, parents, high school students and staff, follow the guidelines to ensure the safety of our students and staff throughout the entire year.
With the exception of a weekend respite, it looks like these unusually warm temperatures will stay with us through next week. We were able to provide water bottles to students who did not come with any. If the forecast holds true, I would ask you to ensure your child comes to school with a refillable water bottle or at least two plastic water bottles.
While we are on the subject of beverages, a reminder that we are not allowing drinks other than water throughout HMS (with the exception of the cafeteria during lunch).
On a lighter note, this summer, we worked with Jim Cozzens of HCAM to develop a video featuring the HMS Administrative Team. Our goal was for you to be able to put a face with a name in a (hopefully) humorous fashion.
We look forward to a great Day 2 on Thursday and wish you an enjoyable long weekend.
