Before/After School Care


Hopkinton Public Schools facilitates a Before Care program for students in Kindergarten through grade five (5) at the Marathon Elementary School.  The Before School program will be available beginning at 7:00am. Aftercare services to students in Kindergarten through grade five (5) is provided at the Marathon Elementary School and Hopkins Elementary School.  Students that attend Marathon or Elmwood may choose the aftercare program at either Marathon or Hopkins and will be transported between the schools. The aftercare program is available until 6:00 pm.

Kidsborough is pleased to provide the Before and After School Program for the Hopkinton Public Schools.  Our curriculum is created in support of and fully aligned with, the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. Kidsborough provides a structured, academically based after school program to children in grades K-5.  Each afternoon includes fun enrichment-based activities, educational time including homework support and completion, active physical play, free time and a healthy snack. Our programs are carried out by an exceptional, caring staff that look forward to working with children each day.  We create an environment that is consistent and predictable, yet empowers the children to explore their potential.

Kidsborough Philosophies, Goals and Objectives:

  • Teach, practice and instill effective study habits and engage each child to become a lifelong learner
  • Support children in their social and emotional growth by creating an environment of inclusion, safety and respect for all.
  • Encourage personal creativity through a variety of enrichment-based activities.
  • Develop positive and dynamic relationship with families where communication is encouraged, comfortable and enhances the development of the child.
  • Provide opportunities to build strong bodies through healthy eating choices and active physical play.

Before School Programming (7:00 am to 9:00 am) - Marathon

The morning program is less structured and allows for relaxed independent play.  Options include reading a favorite book, puzzles from our mobile library, play a board game with friends, or build Legos and K’nex.  Children are also encouraged to play outside (or in the gym) for 30 minutes each morning.

After School Programming (2:30 pm to 6:00 pm) - Hopkins and Marathon

Children will begin their time with a nutritious snack before they settle into their after school routine of Educational TimeEnrichment / Free-Choice Play and Active Physical Play.  During their Educational Time, children will complete their homework with the assistance of staff members.  The Kidsborough staff will work in small groups to provide necessary academic support, guiding children to achieve at their highest level, reviewing homework for understanding, accuracy and completion, while encouraging the role of personal responsibility in their academic success.  Enrichment / Free-Choice Play activities will include arts and crafts, science projects, dramatic play, or listening to a child appropriate podcast.  Children may also join the free 8-week clubs that have included Chess, Spanish, sign Language, Dance, Gizmos & Gadgets, Music, Community Service, Karate and more.  Active Physical Play allow the children to enjoy the gym or outdoors. There is a balance of free play and organized group games and activities.
