Advice from 9th/10th graders on Course Selection
Current Grades 9-11
Beginning Tuesday, March 8th at 8:00 am the online request portal in PowerSchool will open for students currently in grades 9-11 to enter their course requests for the 2022 - 2023 school year. The portal will close on the morning of Thursday, March 17th. Below are important links to the Program of Studies, PowerSchool instructions, and the Scheduling Documents/Timelines. In addition, to assist students in making well-informed decisions, we have created a helpful Time Management Calculator. We encourage students to use this document when selecting courses to help outline the amount of time they are spending on all of their various commitments. We also have linked a short, informational video put together by our Subject Matter Leaders about the different courses offered here at HHS. We encourage you and your child to review all the links below before making your course selections.
Teachers here at the high school have submitted recommendations for their students into PowerSchool. Our teachers are invested in this process and work collaboratively with their first semester colleagues when discussing the appropriate placement for a student. Teachers recommend courses and levels that both challenge your child but that also offers them the best opportunity for success. We strongly encourage students to consider their teacher’s recommendations when signing up for courses. However, if your child has not been recommended to take a course they were hoping to enroll in, please have them complete the Override Consideration form located in the Scheduling Documents/Timelines link below. For the 2022-23 scheduling year only one course override will be permitted. Override forms are due by Friday, March 18th.
Please note that course requests can be entered from both the parent and student portal, but the data entered in one will overwrite the other. We recommend parents and students collaborate and only enter requests under one account. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s school counselor.

Online Courses
What you need to know about Online Courses.
- Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. By site license agreement, there are registration limits on both VHS and TEC online courses per semester.
- Online courses are open to juniors and seniors, with seniors receiving preference. Students who do best in these courses are self-disciplined, committed, responsible and motivated.
- Students may only register for courses that are NOT offered at HHS.
- TEC online courses translate to 2.5 credits per semester at HHS.
- Though these courses require independent study, students work in an assigned area and time slot, as in any other HHS course. If they fail to log in and keep up with their assigned work, after two weeks they will be dropped from the course per course provider policy.
- Online courses are real courses that require a strong commitment. Students will NOT be allowed to change courses after the start of the semester. If students are dropped from the course due to inactivity, they will NOT be allowed to add another class, and will receive a W/P or W/F on their transcript based upon their grade at dismissal.
- Student's must fill out a registration application, obtain the necessary signatures, and submit the completed form to their counselor as soon as possible. Registrations will only be accepted as space allows.
- Student’s who do not achieve at least a C- final grade for an online course will not be permitted to take subsequent online courses.
- The online Site Coordinators is Mrs. Amy Caruso. Mrs. Caruso can be found in the School Counseling office.
