JLCE - Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation & First Aid
The School Committee shall ensure that, in any school building with an instructional and administrative staff of ten or more at least two employees have current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation in which they have received training within the last two years.
The following employees shall be required to maintain current certification (trained within the last two years) in cardiopulmonary resuscitation by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross:
- All Wellness Teachers (educators who teach health and/or physical education)
- Anyone employed by the school district who serves as an athletic coach or chief sponsor for an extracurricular athletic activity sponsored or sanctioned by the Hopkinton Public Schools
- All personnel designated as part of a school or district Crisis Response Team
- At least one chaperone of any overnight field trip
Principals will work with nurses and wellness teachers to ensure that certifications are maintained. The district will provide CPR training two times a year; however, those requiring certification may seek out-of-district training programs to acquire certification from a licensed AHA or Red Cross instructor. All personnel requiring CPR certification shall submit proof of current certification to the Human Resources Director for placement in personnel files.
The names of all personnel certified in CPR in a school should be conspicuously posted in the nurse’s health station, cafeteria, gymnasium, main office, and in each wing or department of a school.
Additionally, it is highly encouraged that all personnel be certified in CPR and that individuals who supervise athletic activities also seek certification in first aid from the AHA or American Red Cross
